A stacked block retaining wall with stairs built into the wall, holding back a sloped backyard. The gallery follows the wall from excavation through the finished steps.

The Wall

Block courses set on a gravel base.

The yard was excavated and the wall was built on a leveled gravel base with a drain pipe behind it. Block courses are stacked in running bond, with a corner that wraps around the yard.

The Steps

Stairs built right into the wall.

Block steps are built into the wall so you can walk up to the higher part of the yard without a separate staircase. The finished wall gives the yard a flat, usable level next to the house.
